Summary

This bill amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to exclude Social Security benefits from being counted as income when determining eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps. Currently, Social Security income counts toward the income limits used to determine SNAP eligibility, which can disqualify some seniors. Under this bill, Social Security retirement, disability, and survivor benefits would no longer count as income for SNAP purposes, potentially allowing more seniors to qualify for food assistance. The bill takes effect 90 days after enactment.
