Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.

A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection relating to the withdrawal of the rule relating to "Fair Credit Reporting; Background Screening".

S. J. RES. 133 Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection relating to the withdrawal of the rule relating to ``Fair Credit Reporting; Background Screening''.

Introduced Mar 18, 2026

Latest action (May 13, 2026) Motion to proceed to consideration of measure rejected in Senate by Voice Vote. (consideration: CR S2266)

Summary

This joint resolution uses the Congressional Review Act to disapprove a rule issued by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection in May 2025 that would withdraw an earlier Fair Credit Reporting rule on background screening requirements. The original Fair Credit Reporting rule was issued in January 2024 and established standards for how background screening information could be used in consumer reporting. If approved, the resolution would prevent the withdrawal from taking effect, keeping the original Fair Credit Reporting rule in place. Under the Congressional Review Act, if the resolution passes both chambers and is signed by the President, the withdrawal rule would have no legal force and the prior rule would remain in effect.
