SJRES 126
Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.

Summary

This joint resolution provides for congressional disapproval of a rule submitted by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection related to the withdrawal of a previous regulation on time-barred debt under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The resolution invokes the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to disapprove of federal agency regulations. If approved, the joint resolution would prevent the Bureau's withdrawal rule from taking effect, meaning the original regulation on time-barred debt would remain in force. The joint resolution was introduced in March 2026, referred to the Banking Committee, and subsequently discharged by petition in April 2026. Joint resolutions of disapproval must pass both chambers of Congress and, unless vetoed by the President, become law.
