Myakka Wild and Scenic River Act of 2025

To amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to designate the portion of the Myakka River in Sarasota County, Florida, as a component of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, and for other purposes.

Introduced Jul 14, 2025

Latest action (Dec 9, 2025) Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks. Hearings held.

Summary

The bill designates approximately 34 miles of the Myakka River in Sarasota County, Florida, as components of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The designated segments are divided into eight sections, classified as scenic river, wild river, or recreational river, to be administered by the Secretary of the Interior in partnership with the Myakka River Management Coordinating Council. The Secretary of the Interior may enter into cooperative agreements with state and local agencies and organizations to manage and protect the river. Land acquisition for the river is limited to donations or purchases with owner consent, and no land may be acquired through condemnation. The designation does not establish the river as part of the National Park System and does not affect existing management of public or private land in the river watershed.
