Mullica River Watershed Wild and Scenic River Study Act of 2026
To amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to designate the Mullica River watershed in New Jersey for study for potential designation as a wild and scenic river, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill designates the Mullica River watershed in New Jersey for study under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to determine whether it should be officially designated as a wild and scenic river. The bill identifies specific river segments within the watershed that should be studied, including the Mullica River, Wading River, Batsto River, and numerous tributaries and creeks. The Secretary of the Interior is required to conduct the study and submit a report to Congress within three years of funding being made available. The study will evaluate whether these river segments meet the criteria for designation as wild and scenic rivers, which would provide federal protection and management for the waterways. This authorization does not establish the rivers as wild and scenic rivers, but rather initiates the process to determine whether such designation is appropriate.
