End the Fed’s Big Bank Bailout Act
To amend the Federal Reserve Act to prohibit earnings on balances maintained at a Federal Reserve bank by or on behalf of a depository institution.
Summary
S 2113 would amend the Federal Reserve Act to prohibit Federal Reserve banks from paying interest or earnings on the reserve balances that banks maintain at the Federal Reserve. Reserve balances are funds that banks hold at the Federal Reserve as required or for operational purposes. Currently, the Federal Reserve pays interest on these reserves as part of its monetary policy operations. The bill would eliminate that practice.
