Extend the TikTok Deadline Act

To amend the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act to extend the deadline by which TikTok must be sold in order to avoid being banned.

Introduced Jan 15, 2025

Latest action (Jan 15, 2025) Read twice and referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

Summary

This bill amends the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act to extend the deadline for TikTok to be sold or divested from 270 days to 540 days. The extension would delay when TikTok would face a ban in the United States if it is not sold to a non-Chinese entity. The bill does not change the underlying requirement that TikTok must be divested; it only extends the timeline for compliance. No other provisions or modifications to the existing law are included in this bill.
