To eliminate the period of limitations for certain non-capital homicide offenses.
Summary
This bill eliminates the statute of limitations for certain federal non-capital homicide offenses, allowing indictments to be filed at any time without time restrictions. The offenses affected include murder in the second degree, voluntary manslaughter, and attempted manslaughter under various federal statutes. Currently, most federal crimes have time limits for when an indictment can be brought; this bill removes that time constraint specifically for these homicide offenses. The effect is that federal prosecutors could bring charges for these offenses regardless of how much time has passed since the crime occurred.
