Critical Water Supplies for Resilient Communities Act
To amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to make changes to the program authorizing grants for alternative water source projects, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to expand and modify the alternative water source projects program, converting it from a pilot program to an ongoing grants program. The bill broadens the definition of "critical water supply needs" to include existing and anticipated future water supply needs identified through locally-developed plans with public engagement, as well as regional and local drought resiliency efforts. The bill requires the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator to submit annual reports to Congress describing each funded project and how it addresses the water supply needs it was designed to meet. The bill also extends the authorization for the program through fiscal year 2031.
