Parkinson’s Protection for Firefighters Act

To amend title 5, United States Code, to include Parkinson's disease in the list of illnesses and diseases deemed to be proximately caused by employment in fire protection activities, and for other purposes.

Summary

This bill amends federal law to add Parkinson's disease to the list of illnesses and diseases that are presumed to be caused by employment in fire protection activities. Currently, federal firefighters must demonstrate a causal connection between workplace exposure and certain diseases to receive workers' compensation; this bill would eliminate that requirement for Parkinson's disease, establishing a presumption that the disease resulted from fire protection work. The bill also makes technical corrections to the statute, including correcting a typographical error and updating subsection headings. These changes would apply to federal firefighters covered under the federal employees' compensation system.
