Summary
This bill expands federal workers' compensation coverage for employees of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) who work in fire protection by classifying Certified Fire Investigators and members of the National Response Team as employees in fire protection activities. Under existing federal law, certain illnesses and diseases are deemed to be work-related for fire protection employees; this bill extends that presumed occupational illness coverage to these ATF employees. The expansion applies to workers' compensation claims filed after the bill's enactment.
