Safe Transit Accountability Act
To amend title 49, United States Code, to authorize the accountable executive of a safety committee to resolve disputes of the safety committee, and for other purposes.
Summary
The bill amends federal transit law to clarify the authority of the accountable executive of a transit agency in relation to the agency's safety committee. The accountable executive becomes the final decision-maker for determining whether to implement risk-based mitigation strategies recommended by the safety committee and serves as the sole tiebreaker for any safety committee disputes. The accountable executive is defined as the single person with ultimate responsibility for the agency's Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan and Transit Asset Management Plan, and control over the resources needed for both.
