S 1828 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend title 23, United States Code, to require States to designate a coordinator of the safe routes to school program in the State, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill requires each state to designate a coordinator for its Safe Routes to School program. The coordinator serves as the main point of contact for the program and must have their contact information posted on the state's transportation department website. States can use existing employees for the position and must fill any vacancies within 180 days. States may pay the coordinator's salary using existing highway funding already available to them. The coordinator position is limited to duties authorized by Congress and cannot be assigned additional responsibilities by the federal government.
