S 112 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Make the Migrant Protection Protocols Mandatory Act of 2025
To amend section 235(b)(2)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act to require the implementation of the Migrant Protection Protocols.
Summary
This bill makes the Migrant Protection Protocols mandatory for the Department of Homeland Security. The Migrant Protection Protocols require certain asylum seekers who are deemed ineligible for asylum to remain in Mexico while their cases are processed in U.S. immigration courts. Currently, DHS has discretion to implement these protocols; the bill changes this to make implementation mandatory. The change is made by amending section 235(b)(2)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act to replace permissive language ("may") with mandatory language ("shall").
