HR 551 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Make the Migrant Protection Protocols Mandatory Act of 2025
To amend section 235(b)(2)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act to require the implementation of the Migrant Protection Protocols.
Summary
This bill amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to make the Migrant Protection Protocols mandatory in immigration proceedings. Specifically, it changes section 235(b)(2)(C) of the law from allowing the implementation of the Migrant Protection Protocols (by using the word "may") to requiring it (by changing to "shall"). The Migrant Protection Protocols is an immigration policy related to how asylum seekers are processed at the border. By changing this one word, the bill converts what was previously a discretionary option into a legal requirement. The amendment makes no other changes to the statute.
