Capitol Police Retirement Reform Act of 2026
To amend title 5, United States Code, to include certain overtime pay received by members of the Capitol Police in the computation of annuities for such members, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill changes how Capitol Police retirement benefits are calculated by including certain overtime pay in the computation of retirement annuities. Specifically, it adds overtime compensation earned under the Fair Labor Standards Act to the definition of "basic pay" for retirement purposes, up to 50 percent of the annual overtime maximum for customs officers. The change only applies to Capitol Police members who have completed at least 15 years of service. Overtime pay earned after the bill's enactment date would count toward both regular retirement annuities and survivor benefits for officers who die before separating from service. The Capitol Police must report annual information to the Office of Personnel Management to implement these changes.
