Katrina and Leslie Schaller Act
To extend the supplemental security income program to Guam, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill extends the Supplemental Security Income program to Guam, making Guam residents eligible for the same SSI benefits available to residents of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The bill removes previous statutory exclusions of Guam from SSI and makes conforming changes to Social Security Act provisions to include Guam in program definitions and remove limits on total payments to the territory. The Social Security Commissioner is granted authority to waive or modify SSI program requirements as needed to adapt the program to Guam's circumstances. The changes take effect one fiscal year after the bill's enactment.
