Summary

This bill would modify the student loan default rehabilitation program under the Higher Education Act to expand what gets removed from a borrower's credit history when they rehabilitate a defaulted loan. Currently, the program removes the default record itself; this bill would require removal of all adverse information relating to the loan, not just the default notation. Once a borrower successfully rehabilitates a defaulted federal student loan through the established repayment plan, their credit report would be cleared of any negative marks associated with that loan.
