Federal Workforce Early Separation Incentives Act

To amend section 3523 of title 5, United States Code, to increase the limit on voluntary separation incentive payments, and for other purposes.

Introduced Jan 27, 2026

Latest action (Feb 4, 2026) Ordered to be Reported (Amended) by the Yeas and Nays: 43 - 0.

Summary

This bill amends federal law to increase the maximum limit on voluntary separation incentive payments offered to federal employees. Under current law, there is a limit on these payments, which are used to encourage employees to voluntarily leave their positions. The bill allows federal agencies to offer voluntary separation incentive payments up to six months of an employee's salary, with the specific amount determined by each agency head. This change gives agencies greater flexibility in setting separation incentive amounts when they seek to reduce their workforce or reorganize.
