HR 7163 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To allocate funds for the local law enforcement grant programs, and for other purposes.
Summary
The bill redirects appropriations from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to local law enforcement grant programs. It makes $45 billion available to the Attorney General for the COPS Hiring Program through September 30, 2030, which provides grants to state and local law enforcement agencies. The bill waives certain matching fund requirements for small law enforcement agencies, including counties, municipalities, and tribal governments that employ fewer than 175 law enforcement officers. Additionally, the bill appropriates $45 billion for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program for fiscal year 2025, available until September 30, 2029. These grants support local law enforcement hiring and related activities.
