Fiscal State of the Nation Act
Providing for a joint hearing of the Committees on the Budget of the House of Representatives and the Senate to receive a presentation from the Comptroller General of the United States regarding the audited financial statement of the executive branch.
Summary
This bill requires the chairs of the House and Senate Budget Committees to conduct a joint public hearing within 45 days after the Treasury Department submits the federal government's audited annual financial statement. The Comptroller General of the United States must present the audit findings and provide an analysis of the federal government's overall financial position, including measures such as budget deficits or surpluses and long-term fiscal sustainability. The presentation must follow Government Accountability Office standards for objective, fact-based, and nonpartisan information. Any member of Congress may participate in the hearing, not just members of the Budget Committees.
