Home for the Brave Act of 2025

To exclude from consideration as income under the housing assistance programs of the Department of Housing and Urban Development amounts received by a family from the Department of Veterans Affairs for service-related disabilities of a member of the family, and for other purposes.

Introduced Nov 7, 2025

Latest action (Nov 7, 2025) Referred to the House Committee on Financial Services.

Summary

The Home for the Brave Act of 2025 amends the Department of Housing and Urban Development Act to exclude veterans disability benefits from consideration as income in HUD housing assistance programs. Specifically, disability compensation received under chapter 11 of title 38 and dependency and indemnity compensation received under chapter 13 of title 38 shall not be counted as income. This exclusion applies to determining eligibility for HUD housing assistance, calculating the amount of benefits payable, and determining the rent owed by the family or household. The change means that veterans and their families receiving disability or survivor compensation will not have those amounts reduce their eligibility for or increase their contributions to HUD housing assistance programs. This provision applies to all housing assistance programs administered by the HUD Secretary.
