Fair Housing for Disabeled Veterans Act
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to disregard veteran disability compensation or pension payments in determining income for purposes of the low income housing tax credit and qualified residential rental project bonds.
Summary
The Fair Housing for Disabled Veterans Act would amend the Internal Revenue Code to exclude veteran disability compensation and pension payments from income calculations for low income housing tax credit purposes. The bill would disregard disability compensation or pension payments made under the Department of Veterans Affairs programs when determining whether a rental housing resident qualifies as low income for housing tax credit programs. This change would allow disabled veterans receiving VA disability or pension payments to qualify for affordable housing assistance despite these disability payments. The bill would also apply the same disregard to income determinations for qualified residential rental project bonds. The amendments would be effective for income determinations made after the bill's enactment.
