HR 5044 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend the Diplomatic Security Act to require that congressional notifications relating to decisions to re-open high risk, high threat diplomatic posts include an explanation of the national security value of such decision.
Summary
This bill amends the Diplomatic Security Act to require the State Department to provide Congress with additional information when notifying it of decisions to reopen high-risk or high-threat diplomatic posts. Specifically, the State Department must include a detailed explanation of the national security value of reopening such a post when notifying Congress. The bill does not change the State Department's authority to reopen these posts, but rather requires it to provide Congress with more thorough justification for such decisions.
