HR 4938 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To provide that the Commissioner of Labor Statistics may be removed only with proof of inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office.
Summary
This bill provides job protections for the Commissioner of Labor Statistics by requiring that the commissioner may only be removed for cause—specifically for proof of inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office. The amendment modifies a statute from 1888 that established the Department of Labor, restricting the president's ability to remove the commissioner at will.
