REAL ID Gender Requirement Reform Act
To amend the REAL ID Act of 2005 to allow States to determine whether to require licenses and other identification to list a gender or sex, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the REAL ID Act of 2005 to remove the federal requirement that driver's licenses and identification cards include a gender or sex field, making it optional for states to determine whether to include such a field. For states that choose to include a gender or sex designation, individuals may self-designate without providing additional documentation such as a doctor's note, and states must include an "unspecified" or "other" option in addition to male or female. The bill also makes a conforming amendment to the Court Security Improvement Act of 2007 to reflect the removal of the gender requirement.
