Safeguarding Personal Information Act of 2025
To repeal title II of the REAL ID Act of 2005 in order to safeguard civil liberties and individual privacy.
Summary
This bill repeals Title II of the REAL ID Act of 2005, which established federal standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification documents used for federal purposes. The repeal would eliminate the requirements that states comply with specific security and verification standards for driver's licenses to be accepted for federal identification needs, such as boarding aircraft or entering federal facilities. The bill also makes conforming amendments to remove references to REAL ID Act requirements from related federal laws concerning benefits for Afghanistan nationals and state grants under the Social Security Act.
