Utilizing National Land for Opportunities and Community Key (UNLOCK) Housing Act
To facilitate the use of Federal lands for affordable housing, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill would facilitate the use of federal lands for affordable housing development. It amends the Recreation and Public Purposes Act to designate affordable housing for low-income families as a public purpose on federal lands. The bill establishes a Joint Task Force on Federal Land for Housing to identify underutilized federal land suitable for residential development and streamline the land transfer process. The task force would also evaluate the costs of inadequate affordable housing and submit annual reports to Congress, with the task force terminating after 10 years.
