HR 2174 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
To amend title 5, United States Code, to provide that agencies may not deduct labor organization dues from the pay of Federal employees, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends federal law to prohibit federal agencies and the United States Postal Service from deducting labor organization dues, fees, or political contributions from employee paychecks. The bill modifies Section 7115 of title 5, United States Code to explicitly state that federal agencies may not make such deductions from employee pay. The bill also modifies Section 1205 of title 39, United States Code to apply the same prohibition to the Postal Service and its employees. Employees would no longer be able to authorize their employers to directly deduct union dues or related amounts from their compensation. The bill makes corresponding clerical amendments to update the tables of sections in both title 5 and title 39.
