Supporting Disabled National Guardsmen Act

To amend titles 10 and 38, United States Code, to extend certain benefits to members of the National Guard who incur disabilities while performing State active duty.

Introduced Mar 4, 2025

Latest action (Mar 27, 2025) Referred to the Subcommittee on Health.

Summary

The bill extends military retirement eligibility to National Guard members who incur disabilities while performing State active duty, a status previously not covered for retirement purposes. It also establishes eligibility for Veterans Affairs health care to treat disabilities incurred during State active duty and related conditions. Retirement pay for members retiring due to State active duty disabilities must be reduced to the extent it duplicates other Federal or State disability benefits. VA health care under this provision is available subject to appropriated funding and after exhausting claims against third parties. These provisions expand existing military and veterans benefits to include disabilities occurring during state-level National Guard duty.
