HR 4060 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Service Member Housing Relief Act
To amend title 37, United States Code, to lower the threshold required for the Secretary of Defense to make a temporary adjustment to a rate of the basic allowance for housing for members of the uniformed services, and to make permanent the authority to make such adjustment.
Summary
This bill modifies the rules for adjusting the basic allowance for housing (BAH) that the Department of Defense provides to military service members. It lowers the threshold that triggers temporary adjustments to housing allowances from a 20 percent increase in housing costs to 15 percent. The bill also makes permanent the Secretary of Defense's authority to make these temporary adjustments to BAH rates, removing the current requirement that this authority be periodically renewed or expire.
