Puerto Rico Low-Income Housing Support Act
To amend the definition of extremely low-income families under the United States Housing Act of 1937.
Summary
The bill amends the United States Housing Act of 1937 to change how poverty guidelines are applied to extremely low-income housing programs in Puerto Rico. Specifically, it requires that Puerto Rico public housing agencies and projects use the same poverty guidelines as the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia, rather than a separate standard for Puerto Rico. The bill also requires the Comptroller General to submit a report within 180 days assessing efforts by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Puerto Rico's government to connect low-income families with housing assistance and affordable housing. The report must include an assessment of how federal disaster recovery funds are used to rebuild low-income housing after natural disasters in Puerto Rico and recommendations to improve federal and local housing programs serving extremely low-income families.
