To amend the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to standardize work requirements for able-bodied adults enrolled in the supplemental nutrition assistance program.
Summary
This bill amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to standardize work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It specifies exemptions from work requirements for individuals under 18 or over 65, those certified as physically or mentally unfit for work, parents or caregivers of children under 7, pregnant women, and those otherwise exempt under existing law. The bill also allows states to request a waiver of work requirements in counties with unemployment rates exceeding 10 percent, subject to the Secretary of Agriculture's approval and the state governor's support.
