HR 1077 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
H. R. 1077 To amend the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to expedite geothermal exploration and development in previously studied or developed areas.
Summary
This bill amends the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to streamline the environmental review process for geothermal energy exploration and development in previously studied or developed areas. The bill extends streamlined National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review procedures that currently apply to oil and gas development to also apply to geothermal resource projects under the Geothermal Steam Act of 1970. This change treats geothermal exploration and development similarly to oil and gas projects for purposes of expedited environmental review. The bill aims to reduce permitting delays and accelerate geothermal energy development on federal lands where environmental assessments have already been conducted or where development is ongoing.
