Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 2026
H. R. 1028 To modify eligibility requirements for amateur sports governing organizations.
Summary
This Act modifies the eligibility requirements for amateur sports governing organizations by defining biological sex based on reproductive system characteristics. The bill adds definitions for "female" (individual with reproductive system producing eggs), "male" (individual with reproductive system producing sperm), and "sex" (biological sex designation). The primary eligibility requirement added to the law is a prohibition on individuals whose biological sex is male from participating in amateur athletic competitions designated for females, women, or girls. This requirement would apply to amateur sports governing organizations regulated under federal law. The bill was introduced in February 2025 and reported by committee in February 2026.
