A bill to repeal the provision of law that provides automatic pay adjustments for Members of Congress.
To repeal the provision of law that provides automatic pay adjustments for Members of Congress.
Summary
This bill repeals the automatic annual pay adjustment mechanism for Members of Congress established in the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1946. Currently, Members receive automatic salary adjustments tied to the cost of living; this bill eliminates that automatic provision. Going forward, any salary adjustments for Members would require separate congressional legislation. The bill includes technical amendments to remove references to the automatic adjustment provision and takes effect when the 120th Congress convenes.
