To amend the Natural Gas Act to include a definition of the term ``public interest'', and for other purposes.
Summary
The LNG Export Security Act amends the Natural Gas Act to add a definition of "public interest" that shall be considered when evaluating liquefied natural gas export proposals. Under the bill, public interest is defined to include consideration of: the development of natural gas facilities and domestic natural gas supply in the United States; domestic economic interests; and national security interests. This definition would apply to regulatory decisions by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission regarding approval of LNG export terminals and related natural gas infrastructure.
