Federal Mechanical Insulation Act of 2026
To amend the National Energy Conservation Policy Act to include the installation of mechanical insulation property as an energy or water efficiency measure, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill amends the National Energy Conservation Policy Act to include mechanical insulation installation as an eligible energy and water efficiency measure in federal buildings. The bill defines mechanical insulation property as insulation materials or products placed into service with mechanical systems that meet American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers standards and reduce energy loss. The bill requires that comprehensive energy and water evaluations for federal buildings identify mechanical insulation installation as a potential energy and water-saving measure. Mechanical insulation installation would be eligible for consideration and implementation under federal energy conservation programs. This expands the types of efficiency improvements that federal agencies can make to reduce energy consumption.
