Energy Affordability and Reliability Act of 2026
To establish an Office of Energy Affordability within the Department of Energy, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill establishes an Office of Energy Affordability within the Department of Energy to review proposed energy regulations and policies that involve transitions between energy types or sources. The Office must determine whether proposed regulations analyze their short-term and long-term effects on energy affordability and economic costs, and whether they include strategies to prevent negative impacts. The Office must complete reviews within 30 days of receiving notice of a proposed regulation or policy but cannot prevent their issuance. The bill requires annual reports to Congress on the effects of reviewed regulations and recommendations for mitigation strategies, and directs the Secretary of Energy to report on the Office's effectiveness within five years.
