Summary

This bill expands the Livestock Indemnity Payment program to provide additional compensation to farmers for unborn livestock lost when pregnant animals die from eligible conditions. The additional payments would be determined by the Secretary of Agriculture at a rate no greater than 85 percent of the payment rate for the lowest weight class of livestock. The payment amount would be adjusted based on the type of livestock, with multipliers that account for typical litter sizes and gestation characteristics of different species. The program would apply to unborn livestock death losses occurring on or after January 1, 2024.
