Securing Smart Investments in our Ports Act

To ensure an equitable geographic distribution of projects selected through the Port Infrastructure Development Program.

Introduced Apr 1, 2025

Latest action (Apr 1, 2025) Read twice and referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

Summary

This bill amends the Port Infrastructure Development Program to require that federally funded port infrastructure projects be selected with consideration for equitable geographic distribution across different regions of the United States. The requirement applies to both the main Port and Intermodal Improvement Program and the program providing assistance to small inland river and coastal ports and terminals. The bill adds geographic equity as a selection criterion when the Secretary of Transportation chooses which port projects to fund, without otherwise changing the programs' eligibility requirements or selection processes.
