Securing Smart Investments in our Ports Act
To ensure an equitable geographic distribution of projects selected through the Port Infrastructure Development Program.
Summary
This bill amends the Port Infrastructure Development Program to require equitable geographic distribution of federally funded port improvement projects across different regions of the United States. The bill modifies requirements for both the Port and Intermodal Improvement Program and the Assistance for Small Inland River and Coastal Ports and Terminals program. Both programs must now consider geographic distribution when selecting which projects to fund. This ensures that port infrastructure investment is dispersed across the country rather than concentrated in particular regions. The amendments take effect upon enactment.
