Summary

This bill amends the Seniors Farmers' Market Nutrition Program to add tree nuts and shelled tree nuts to the list of eligible foods that seniors can purchase. The program provides federal nutrition assistance to low-income seniors to purchase fruits, vegetables, and other foods at farmers' markets and roadside stands. Currently, eligible foods include produce and herbs; this bill expands the program to also include tree nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pecans, and cashews. The change allows seniors participating in the program to use their benefits to purchase these nutrient-dense foods at farmers' markets. No new funding is allocated by the bill, but it broadens what eligible foods seniors can buy under the existing program.
