Farmers’ Market Expansion Act of 2025
To amend the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 to include the provision of tree nuts (including shelled tree nuts) under the seniors farmers' market nutrition program, and for other purposes.
Summary
This Act amends the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 to expand the Seniors Farmers' Market Nutrition Program to include tree nuts, both shelled and unshelled, as eligible foods that seniors can purchase using their program benefits. The program currently authorizes seniors to buy produce and herbs at farmers' markets; this amendment adds tree nuts to the list of approved items. The change allows participating seniors to use their existing nutrition program benefits to purchase items such as almonds, walnuts, pecans, and other tree nuts. No new funding or changes to the program's structure are created; it is solely an expansion of eligible food categories.
