To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to adjust the eligibility for the rural emergency hospital designation under the Medicare program.
Summary
This bill would amend Medicare rules for rural emergency hospital designation to broaden the eligibility criteria. Instead of determining eligibility based on a specific point in time, hospitals could qualify if they met the criteria at any point between January 1, 2015, and a specified end date. The bill also clarifies that the rural emergency hospital designation remains valid even if a facility changes ownership and receives a new Medicare provider identification number.
