HR 8758 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Protecting Our Second Amendment Data Act
To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to require certifications related to the intentional, accidental, or otherwise knowing disclosure of personally identifiable information of persons involved in transactions related to possession of firearms, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill adds requirements to several federal justice grant programs, including the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program and COPS grants. Agencies and organizations applying for these grants would be required to certify that they have not intentionally, accidentally, or otherwise knowingly disclosed personal information of individuals involved in firearm registration, concealed carry permit applications, open carry permit applications, or firearm background checks during the previous fiscal year. The bill defines personally identifiable information as data that can identify an individual, such as name, social security number, or biometric records. Failure to provide this certification would affect an entity's eligibility for federal justice grants.
