HR 8699 Introduced Re-checks Congress.gov for new actions and updates the bill's status, and fills in any sponsors, committees, or related bills that are missing. It does not re-pull sponsors/cosponsors/committees/related — those rarely change — and it skips all work if nothing has changed upstream, so it's cheap to click.
Safe Transit for All Act of 2026
To amend title 49, United States Code, to require certain recipients of Federal assistance for public transit systems to establish a program to collect data on passenger harassment on public transit systems, and for other purposes.
Summary
The Safe Transit for All Act of 2026 requires public transit agencies serving urbanized areas with populations of 200,000 or more to establish programs for collecting data on passenger harassment. Transit agencies must create accessible digital and in-person reporting mechanisms for passengers to report incidents of verbal harassment, physical assault, or sexual assault they have experienced or witnessed. The data collected must include information about the frequency, type, location, and time of incidents, as well as demographic information of affected passengers and the characteristics that may have prompted the harassment. Transit agencies must publish collected data on a public website while protecting personally identifiable information and must conduct outreach in multiple languages to reach passengers with limited English proficiency. The bill also requires transit agencies to establish protocols for responding to harassment reports and amends the National Transit Database to include this harassment data.
