To amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and titles 10 and 32, United States Code, to authorize the National Guard to protect certain facilities and assets from unmanned aircraft, and for other purposes.
Summary
This bill authorizes the National Guard to protect certain facilities and assets from unmanned aircraft, such as drones. State governors can request that the Secretary of Defense authorize National Guard members to take protective actions against unmanned aircraft threatening specific facilities. The bill amends federal law to allow the National Guard to take these actions despite certain federal aviation laws and regulations that would otherwise prohibit them. The authorization involves coordination between the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security to determine when and how the National Guard may be deployed for this purpose.
