To increase the death gratuity payable upon the death of a member of the Armed Forces and to provide for annual cost-of-living adjustments to such death gratuity, and for other purposes.
Summary
The bill increases the death gratuity payable to the survivors of military service members who die from $100,000 to $200,000, effective for deaths occurring on or after January 1, 2026. It establishes an annual cost-of-living adjustment to the death gratuity amount based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, beginning January 1, 2027. The adjusted amount would be rounded to the nearest $100. The Secretary of Defense would be required to publish the adjusted death gratuity amount annually in the Federal Register.
