Summary

This bill makes two main changes to federal health insurance programs for people with diabetes. First, it amends Medicaid to recognize doctors of podiatric medicine as physicians, allowing Medicaid to cover foot and ankle care services provided by podiatrists. Second, it modifies Medicare's requirements for therapeutic shoes for people with diabetes by clarifying the documentation standards and allowing physicians and qualified professionals like podiatrists to prescribe and fit these shoes. The Medicaid change takes effect in 2026, while the Medicare changes take effect in 2028.
